Jenny Morelli is a high school English teacher from New Jersey, where she lives with her husband and cat. She’s inspired by everything she sees and loves the spin the most mundane things into fantastical tales. She is a prolific reader and writer who writes in many genres including poems, memoirs, short stories, and novels, but poetry has always been her first passion. Poetry, and her students.
I fly into nothing, steered only by wind. Clouds veil my descent.
When I land, a dusty poof blooms, cocooning me, obscuring my vision. I gasp, wheeze, breathe, calm. My respiration regulates, the poof dissipates. The world before me is different from what I left, different from my climb above, different from my flight down. I stand, stretch, embrace the hum of my new home. Trees pulse, sky sobs, grass giggles. I’m awake now, alive, alert, right here, right now. I walk into my future, a new me, a collective us. I hit save. I hit restore.

I wonder if you are a bee. Or a bird. Or a bat? You could be anything!

this makes me smile. i feel all the movement in flying and landing and sensing the new. I feel restored, positive, gleeful, as if i just landed like a cat, on my feet, ready to go,
