Author: Arlene Placer

Arlene began writing in 2017 at the age of 77. Mainly fanfiction (Sherlock) and then delved into short stories. She belongs to two Zoom writing groups and one poetry group.

It couldn't be! It just can't! No! After all this time, it's here and --- but wait!
Where did the time go?
Why didn't the clock stop?
Maybe the sun or moon should have known and ---.
But no one cared.
No one, even the deities, wondered why or where.
But try as I might, it came.
At first, as slow as the turtle climbing up onto the sandy beach.
And then, like a sprinter, it ran.
It pushed the clock, and it sped like a rocket challenging the sky.
And so I stand, sit, lie down to feel the rush, the wisp of wind, the breeze, the torrent washed over all.
The impossible is here, and no one, nothing can stop it.
Its strength pushes and shoves all away.
Close the door, pull down the blinds, rush up the stairs.
Nothing will or could change its course.
It's here ---It's now.
The last day.
